In the fall semester, we asked you to tell us who you are. Our inaugural issue explores the many varying identities that make up the Hampton University community. With the help of faculty, staff, and students alike we created an issue that reflects the collective artistic identity of our Home by the Sea. Now we ask: what do you desire? In our Late Spring 2022 issue, we are exploring Infatuation. Defined as an intense but short lived admiration for someone or something, we felt “infatuation” would be fitting for the fleeting lushness of Spring. As the trees bud, the flowers bloom, and the wind loses its wintry chill, we ask for your reflections. Where do your infatuations lie? Tell us, what or who are you infatuated with? We won’t judge! 

We are looking for all types of work, some of which are listed below. You can also check out our first issue to get a feel for the journal. If you plan on submitting a piece outside of our listed guidelines, email us at hurenaissancemag@gmail.com to let us know what you’re submitting. We are happy to make accommodations to feature your work. 

As always, thank you for sharing your stories and pieces of yourself with us at Hampton Renaissance. We want to be able to give students a platform that is inclusive, open-minded, and unrestricting. We want poetry, prose, op-eds, political cartoons, photography, digital and mixed-media artwork, and stories of black culture, black experiences, and black politics. We want vulnerability, emotion, and empowerment. 

At Hampton Renaissance, we value new, fresh voices from students and faculty alike. We are seeking all different styles of written, visual, and mixed-media artwork  from Hampton University community members. We want to be able to give students a platform that is inclusive and open-minded and unrestricting.
