Excerpts from Four Suits: A Deck of 100-Word Stories

Ran Walker
After their father passed away, the four of them got together once a year on his birthday, as he would have wanted them to, to remember him and fortify their sibling bond. It never occurred to them that they could have met up more regularly, as the two who lived out of state were still within driving distance. Instead, they turned their father’s birthday into a holiday and treated it as such.
They never celebrated their mother, from whom they’d been estranged much of their lives, and, ironically, they might’ve been estranged from each other, if not for their father.
