a love's homecoming
Samantha Galloway
the times I yearn for your touch have become too much to bear.
hearts have become homes, and even though we’re both away, i know we’ll be back
here.
take your time in finding your way back,
because when you arrive, i need you to recognize that my defenses are down, with
no intention to attack.
i long to know what your home looks like now.
the last time i was there, your walls were blue and bruised somehow.
you’d keep your curtains closed, and never wanted to let the light in.
i never saw reason to judge because these conditions reflected other people’s sins.
shattered glass adorned the floor,
and my steps caused cuts that reached my heart and made it grow sore.
i grew to adore you,
but staying here would’ve pulled me down too.
so i left, still wanting your presence too soon.
after leaving, the temptation to turn around had been the longest and hardest
fight.
it’s been a while, and i still long to know what your home look like.
i hope the sun’s light is dressing those blue walls
and its warmth has seeped in to heat every hall.
maybe you’ve swept the glass and have tended to your wounds,
but i won’t know until the day comes when you let me inside your room.
there was a lot of focus on what was missing, instead of what was there,
and many months later, i understand why but it also felt unfair.
we wanted the same thing but couldn’t see eye to eye,
and still mirrored each other to the point where the reflections were too high.
when i first met you, i knew this lifetime wasn’t the first one spent together.
our connection transcends time, and that’s why i feel like i’ve known you forever.
i do know you, yet i’m still the student and you’re the teacher.

you’re what i want to learn, and like a book i’m ready to read you.
i’d like to give you my best, imperfections included,
gravitational pulls are deeply rooted,
and spiritual energy can never lie,
because the intertwining of ours can’t be untied
despite the forces that have tried.
my prayers for you will never go unheard,
before our first conversation and after our last, my tongue still spoke of those
words.
divinity brought you to me and me to you
to fulfill a lasting love that’s eternally true.
